TARGET LEARNERS

Suitable for both regulated and unregulated healthcare providers working within settings across the continuum of care.

Learning Targets:

  • Overview the negative lived experience of WRP and the human right to be heard, assessed, diagnosed and managed using best available evidence.

  • Examine positive impact of attitudes (mindset) and behaviours (actions) of a caring, compassionate and informed healthcare provider on the person at risk of or living with WRP.

  • Describe wound-related pain experiences (background, incident, procedural, operative).

  • Define, describe and differentiate pain types (nociceptive, neuropathic, mixed, anticipatory) and pathology of chronic vs acute pain.

  • Identify key elements and best practice considerations relating to wound-related pain assessment and the use of validated multi and uni-dimensional and wound type specific (Neuropathic pain – NeP) screening and assessment tools.

  • Reflect on key learnings for individual HCPS, teams, organisations, and need to raise awareness of best practice recommendations for early identification, minimisation & evidence-based management of WRP (pharmacological & non-pharmacological) with a focus on dressing change procedure.
